Major Rookie Tier 1 With Early Season Success in Cambridge
The Waterloo Tigers Major Rookie Tier 1 team put forth a strong team effort this weekend in the Cambridge Cubs AAA Major Rookie tournament this past weekend.  The tournament was filled with many of the top AAA teams in the province and Waterloo showed they can compete with the top teams.
The boys defeated Whitby on Friday night and then played a solid team game in a 16-2 victory over their arch rival, the Kitchener Panthers to set up a match-up with Peterborough for first place in the pool on Saturday night under the lights.  In a back and forth game, Peterborough emerged 9-8 but Waterloo pushed the 2017 OBA bronze medalists to the brink.  The loss to Peterborough set up a tough semi-final match-up with East York.  The Bulldogs played a near perfect game to defeat the Tigers and end their tournament run earlier than the Waterloo faithful had hoped.
A highlight of the weekend was the Skills Competition.  Waterloo was excited to participate and took advantage of the opportunity.  Three different groups of four players competed in a relay race around the bases “Fleet of Foot”, a team throwing and catching competition “Around the Horn” and a hardest thrower competition “Flame Thrower”.  They cheered each other one as each group of four players participated and when the dust settled, Waterloo walked away with first place in the Fleet of Foot and Around the Horn competitions.  A great accomplishment for a hardworking bunch of young players.
The Tigers return to ICBA play with this great experience under their belt as they continue to get better each time they take the field.
